December 1 -  It's Blogmas!

It's Christmas! And we're celebrating all things merry this festive season by kicking off our first blogmas! For those unfamiliar with the term, blogmas, it starts on December 1st and is a Christmas themed blog that highlights events, digital trends, and holiday inspired activities here at Obergine HQ and the Oxford area on a weekly basis.

December 2 - Oxford Botanic Garden Christmas Fair

We may have a slight bias towards all things University of Oxford, so how could we not be excited for their alluring Christmas Fair. The fact it's the oldest botanic garden in the UK makes the atmosphere all the merrier plus the selection of fine gifts, mulled wine, and festive music! Tweet us @Obergine if you're there - we'd love to see your Christmas fun!

December 3 - Advent Season Begins

The well known and beloved tradition of counting down the days until Christmas Day is older than you may think - over one thousand years! These days, however, the UK has embraced all sorts of peculiar and wondorous ways of embracing that countdown through a variety of themed advent calendars. This includes chocolate, perfume, and wine being part of the advent celebration.

December 4 - Christmas at Blenheim Palace

For those looking to light up their Christmas with friends and family, the festive lights trail at Blenheim Palace is the place to be. Their grounds are adorned in over a thousand different colours, glowing lanterns, bobbing boats, and more! Don't forget the spiced cider or mulled wine on the exciting journey. December 5 - Best Christmas Ads

For some, the Christmas season kicks off when the advertisements are released. The feeling of 'unwrapping' branded creativity through a digital marketing campaign packed with humour, picturesque scenes, and relatable characters can bring some much needed holiday cheer. Each year the anticipation is more abundant than the year prior. From the beloved John Lewis ad featuring Moz the Monster, to M&S teaming up with Paddington Bear, and the comical return of Aldi's Kevin the Carrot, this year is no exception when it comes to the best Christmas adverts! For more videos, check out the The Independent's full review. And while you're at it, be sure to tweet us with your best ones!

December 6 - Saint Nicholas Day

The holiday season brings with it a variety of traditions, folklore, and history. Although not as widespread and celebrated in the UK, the observance of Saint Nicholas day across European countries is a significant time, especially in the lead up towards Christmas Day. Celebrations can include children receiving small gifts and sweets in their shoes or under a pillow, a large meal or feast with family and friends, and attending a special Mass service. The emphasis of the day is to focus on giving rather than receiving.

December 7 - Oxford Christmas Market

If you're like us, you wait patiently all year for the Oxford Christmas Market to come to town. Or any Christmas Market throughout the UK, really. They are a chance to enjoy a cup or two of delicious mulled wine and hot chocolate while browsing the various booths for that special gift.
